I’m a pretty talented guy. For the majority of my knowledge of photography, I’m self taught. That isn’t to say that I haven’t read books and online articles, watched and studied videos and generally tried to seek out information. I definitely have done those things. In fact, the majority of my foundational knowledge came from The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby. However, most of what I know was taking what I read and then applying it to situations and learning through trial and error—with a lot more error than I’ll readily admit to.
However, there are two purchases that have made a fundamental shift in my photography. In a matter of days, the professional level of my photography increased dramatically. Since I’ve always been big on giving credit where credit is due, I wrote a review of these two purchases in this blog post.

Adam and I had the privilege of spending this weekend shooting headshots of some really fun people! Something I loved about the whole experience was the range of personalities we were able to capture. We had a figure skater, an actor, a hair stylist, a model, the founder of a non-profit organization (Heartspeak), and an improv artist/teacher (Laurentina’s Improv Club). We really had such a great time and I’m excited to get to share these photos!

My time with headshot superstar Peter Hurley was nothing short of amazing. I learned way more than I was expecting and really feel like every penny we paid for the experience was well worth what I took away. Not only did I learn a ton from Peter, I was able to put it into practice with nine working actors that he brought in for me and the other six photographers taking the Headshot Intensive with me!

Before I left to come to Houston, Adam and I decided to take a trip to Centre Island to explore and have a little picnic. I’d never been to the island and Adam hadn’t been in years. Centre Island sits on Lake Ontario and most of it looks toward the city skyline. We really picked the right day to go!

One of the things I wanted to make sure I was able to do before the end of summer was get out to the Toronto Zoo. Adam and I love animals of all kinds, but the particular draw was the African Penguin exhibit at the zoo right now. We both love penguins. They’re really cute, they act like little people with how they make friends with each other, they like affection, and we’ve seen too many YouTube videos of them to pass up the opportunity to see them in person. So, the penguin exhibit was our first stop.

In the previous post, I asked everyone to guess whose eyes are featured in the provided picture. I have to give props to Tony for guessing that one of those pairs of eyes belonged to Kylie Minogue. That was by far the most original guess. ;)
Without totally giving it away, they’re all part of the same band. William and I both won backstage passes to a meet and greet where we got to have photos taken and get things autographed.
Click on the title of this post or Read More below to find out who the eyes belong to — if you don’t already recognize them from the picture below — and see the photos and videos from the event!

It’s been a while since we had a post, so I thought I’d entertain you with a little guessing game/teaser for an upcoming post.
William and I recently met a relatively famous group of musicians — and took photos of them. I plan on writing a longer post about that experience.
In the meantime click the post title or Read More at the bottom to leave your guesses as to whose eyes you think these are. Bonus if you name them individually in order of appearance, from left to right. And don’t worry about being right or wrong. The interesting part is the varying guesses!
