My time with headshot superstar Peter Hurley was nothing short of amazing. I learned way more than I was expecting and really feel like every penny we paid for the experience was well worth what I took away. Not only did I learn a ton from Peter, I was able to put it into practice with nine working actors that he brought in for me and the other six photographers taking the Headshot Intensive with me!

Peter calls it The Headshot Intensive, and it is aptly named. We started at 9:00AM on Saturday morning and didn’t finish up until 11:30 Saturday night. We ate breakfast and lunch while we were working and stepped out of the studio a bit for dinner. The rest of the activity on Saturday was discussing, reviewing and shooting two actors. It was amazing!

In a way, Sunday was more intense than Saturday. Instead of a lot of discussion for the first part of the day, we spent the whole day shooting seven more actors. What I really loved was that we had a real variety of people to shoot. Not only ethnically varied, but we had a lot of different comfort levels in front of the lens. Edwin, one of the actors, had never done a professional headshot before. On the other end of the spectrum, Yelitza, Peter Hurley’s wife, was a model for years and was quite comfortable in front of the lens. Every one of them was at a different points in their careers, played different roles and had varying degrees of comfort in front of the camera. It was a great experience for the seven photographers taking the course.

Now that I’m back in Toronto, Adam and I really want to go in full force with the headshot segment of our business. That brings me to the title of this blog post. Not only does it play with the song “New York, New York” since I was actually in New York, we’re asking any of our blog readers to help us out. If you know anyone who needs headshots, send them links so they can see our work. We’re not just talking about actors, by the way. Tell hair stylists, small business owners, company executives, dancers, directors, even people who want better photos for dating websites. A good headshot can be used by a variety of people in quite a few different ways. Besides, they get to spend time with Adam and me, and we’re awesome!

Also for a little fun, I’m throwing in a few of the shots Peter Hurley took of me while I was there.

You know it. We’ll make you look like a cake-decorating, dog-showing, party-throwing hottie. :)

Very cool William. I’ve just signed up for his B&H seminar and am looking forward to meeting him. I haven’t yet decided, If I’m taking his course as it’s a little $$ but your post has swayed me more toward it. Great images!

John, working with Peter is amazing. He’s very passionate about what he does and he’s a great teacher. It’s expensive but worth more than he charges. If you can do it, take the plunge. :)

Oh, and thanks for the compliments. :)
